Man Found Dead After Standoff with Police

State police said the man appeared to have shot himself after barricading himself inside his Mount Laurel home.

A Mount Laurel man was found dead, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, after barricading himself in his home Friday morning, state police said.

Police were called to The Lakes at Larchmont, just off Mount Laurel-Hainesport Road, shortly before 4:30 a.m. and found the man barricaded inside one of the units, state police spokesman Sgt. Brian Polite said.

The man, whose identity could not yet be provided Friday afternoon, was armed, Polite said, and fired the gun off several times from inside the home. It wasn't clear whether he fired at police or had any other targets.

Police spent several hours attempting to communicate with the man, according to Polite, though he wasn't sure whether their attempts were successful.

Around 1 p.m., the state police tactical unit (TEAMS) entered the home and found the man dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Polite said. He was alone in the house when police found him.
