MHS Student Awards Ceremony Recognizes Academic Excellence

Moorestown High School (MHS) held a recognition ceremony Monday for student awards for National Merit Scholars, National Achievement Scholars, National Hispanic Recognition Scholars, Commended Students, AP Scholars, AP with Honors students and AP with Distinction students.

In early September, approximately 16,000 students are notified they have qualified as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program based on their PSAT scores. Semifinalists are designated on a state representational basis and are the highest scoring entrants in each state. To be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, they must advance to finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and other requirements. From Moorestown High School, those students are: Jacqueline Feng, Chris J. Li, Allison Lin, Zachary Michaud, Kevin Mullin, Gregory Munilla, Jennifer Saouaf and Crystal Tan.

Additionally the National Achievement Program names more than 4,700 students as honorees from the more than 160,000 who enter the competition. About 1,600 of these students will go on to advance for a scholarship. This year, the program recognized senior Nicole White.         

The National Hispanic Recognition Program is recognizing about 5,300 Hispanic/Latino students from more than 259,000 students who took the 2012 PSAT/NMSQT/PAA. They must be at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino and have achieved a minimum PSAT/NMSQT score for their region. A junior year cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher designates them as a scholar and a GPA of 3.0 to 3. 49 designates them as honorable mentions. This year MHS students Josh Toro and Jonathan Munilla were recognized.

Moorestown High School also recognized a number of commended students. These students were named on the basis of a nationally applied selection index. The commended students are: Paul Entwistle, William Gross, Ian Hooper, Bharat Khalidindi, Grace lee, Harry Lewis, Joy Li, Suzanne Miller, Jonathan Munilla, Cameron Pendino, Lindsay Sergi, Kyle Thumar, Erin Vaughn, Patrick Wei, Nicole White and Tharaka Wijesinghe.

The AP scholars who scored three or higher on three exams are: Steven Ai, Tyler Blessing, David Bongiorno, James Burns, Elena Carrigan, Briana Coleman, Joshua Coneby, Nicholas Contarino, Paul Entwistle, Natalia Falana Oropeza, Andre Fitzpatrick, Elizabeth Gorman, William Gross, Kevin Harris, Olivia Howarth, Joseph Inglis, Alexis Japka, Elizabeth Johnson, Bharath Kalidindi, Jasleen Kandhari, Rebeca Kubak, Chris Li, Joy Li, Shayan Malta, Gregory Munilla, Nicholas Novak, Cameron Pendino, Lindsay Sergi, Isa belle Sussman, Crystal Tan, Nicholas Testa, Kyle Thumar, Alexander Topel, Hunya Usmani, Margaret Wilson and Nicole Wilson. 

The AP with honors students who scored 3.25 or higher on four or more exams are: Hannah Edenbaum, George Elia, Bavica Gummadi, Ian Hooper, Joseph Klinger, Victoria LeCates, Gregory Leonberg, Harry Lewis, Alllison Lin, Zachary Michaud, Joshua Toro, Nicole White and Tharaka Wijesinghe.         

The AP with distinction students with 3.5 or higher on five-plus exams are: Jacqueline Feng, Liam Hughes, Grace Lee, Kevin Mullin, Jonathan Munilla, Jennifer Saouaf, Patrick Wei.
