Moorestown to be Recognized by 200 Club

Former mayor's son and township police will receive awards from the volunteer organization.

The son of former Moorestown mayor Dan Roccato will be recognized by the 200 Club of Burlington County during its annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet Friday night.

John Roccato, of Moorestown, will receive a $2,500 college scholarship from the group for submitting a prize-winning essay on the topic of funding public safety during the recession. Roccato is a senior at St. Joseph’s Preparatory School. He will be attending the University of San Diego.

Thomas Coleman, township attorney and spokesman for the club, said Roccato, a junior fireman in Moorestown, was selected out of a total of 10 applicants.

In addition, the Moorestown Police Department will receive a $1,000 award from the 200 Club to fund advanced firearm training for its officers, said Coleman. Maple Shade and Burlington Township fire departments will also each receive $1,000 awards for training.

The 200 Club is a non-profit organization comprised entirely of volunteers with the primary mission of providing financial assistance to the families of fallen or injured members of various public safety organizations. The club also gives out numerous higher education scholarships and special recognition awards.

The awards dinner is open to the public and some seats are available, but very limited. Tickets are $65. Call 856-222-0100 for more information. The event is being held atMerion Caterers in Cinnaminson. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the dinner/awards ceremony begins at 7:30.
