Police: Interrupted Burglar Tackles Woman, Rips Ring Off Her Finger

Moorestown Police are looking for a man they say burglarized a Kimberly Drive home, then assaulted and robbed the resident after she walked in on him.

A burglar tackled a Kimberly Drive resident to the ground and ripped a ring off her finger after she walked in on him Tuesday morning, police said.

According to Moorestown Police, the woman returned home to the 700 block of Kimberly Drive around 10 a.m. to a burglary in progress. As she walked around the back of the house, she saw the suspect exiting the house through a smashed French door.

The woman turned and ran, but was overtaken by the suspect and knocked to the ground. He tried to forcibly pull a ring off her finger, but had trouble with it, so the victim removed it for him “so he wouldn’t pull her finger off,” police said.

The suspect then grabbed the resident’s cell phone and was last seen getting in the passenger seat of a black Kia Sorrento, with unknown Pennsylvania plates.

The suspect was described as a black man, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches, thin, with a mustache, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, police said. The victim was unable to provide a description of the driver of the vehicle.

Sgt. Lee Lieber said typically burglars beat a hasty retreat if they’re caught in the act, so Tuesday’s turn of events was concerning.

“This is troublesome, that they actually turned and assaulted (the resident),” he said.

The woman was unharmed. Police said a large quantity of items, primarily jewelry and watches, were stolen from the ransacked home.
