Public Hearing On Moorestown Budget Set For Monday

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The public hearing and final vote on Moorestown’s proposed $27,950,000 budget with a 1.93 percent increase will take place Monday night.

Moorestown Council will meet in a hybrid format at 7 p.m. Monday night. Council will meet in person at town hall, 111 West Second Street, while allowing participation via MSTeams.

If Moorestown Council approves the budget, the average homeowner would see an annual tax increase of $36.63. This is down from a proposed increase of 3.65 percent ($68.69) that was included in the draft budget first discussed in May. Read more here: Moorestown's Draft Budget Includes Tax Increase

At its last meeting, Moorestown Council approved the annual roposed ordinance to exceed the municipal budget appropriation limits and establish a cap bank.

The proposal allows the township to increase its budget by 3.5 percent over last year's final appropriations and bank the excess as an appropriation. The increase amounts to $621,163.10 over last year's final appropriations. Read more here: Moorestown Council Approves Annual Budget Cap Proposal

There will also be public hearings and final votes on the following proposed ordinances:

  • Amending township code concerning off-street parking;
  • A redevelopment plan for the Moorestown Mall;
  • The implementation of the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement, Assistance and Marketplace Modernization Act;
  • The establishment of transportation for an affordable housing development known as the Moorestown Family Apartments on Borton Landing Road; and
  • The adoption of a financial agreement between the township and Moorestown Family Apartments, LLC.

Council will also introduce a proposed bond ordinance to set aside $690,000 and borrow $655,500 in bonds or notes for improvements to the waste water treatment plant.
