Services Set For Moorestown Man Who Was Dedicated To His Family

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Memorial services for a Moorestown man who was dedicated to his family and was active in his community will take place next week.

James Edward Anderson, 78, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021, in Charlotte, NC, in the company of his loving son.

Born on February 11, 1943, in Moorestown, NJ, he was the son of the late Richard Russell Anderson and Marie Helen Anderson (nee McGann). Following graduation from Moorestown High School, James furthered his education at California State University-Fullerton where he earned a bachelors and master’s degree in economics.

While in California, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Crehan, who was an exchange student from Limerick, Ireland. They on married January 4, 1975, and moved home to Moorestown, NJ, where they had three children.

They happily raised their children. James coached youth basketball for his daughters and played chauffeur to Elizabeth who didn’t drive, driving her around to various Irish music events where he enjoyed a pint and read the paper.

Elizabeth pre-deceased James in February 2005. In 2008, he moved to the Sun City Carolina Lakes community in Fort Mill, SC. He became actively involved in tennis, spending most days on the courts playing in a doubles league.

He also went back to school to audit classes at Winthrop University, he kept up with the young kids on campus and even enjoyed school field trips to Greece and Italy. He would return to the Philadelphia area multiple times per year to spend time with his granddaughters.

He is survived by his three children, Tony Anderson (and partner Gemma) of Charlotte, NC, Cara Boiler (Stephen) of Collingswood, NJ, Lisa Gavin (Michael) of North Wales, PA; six beloved granddaughters Keelin, Lile, Eloise, Maeve, Evelyn and Saoirse; his sisters Marie Leahy of St. Johns, FL and Nancy Harker (Sam) of Murfreesboro, TN; brothers Gene Anderson (Sandra) of Diamondhead, MS and Jerry Anderson (Caron) of Belleaire Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass to celebrate his life will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorestown, NJ, on July 30, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. Interment immediately follows the mass at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Moorestown, NJ.
