SNAP Pause: Where To Find Food Assistance Around Moorestown

MOORESTOWN, NJ — As the federal government shutdown continues and a halt to payments to SNAP recipients looms, many people will be scrambling to find food to get through November and perhaps longer.

About 4.9 percent of Burlington County households receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), according to the latest U.S. Census data.

Here are some food banks in the Moorestown area, according to Food Bank of South Jersey:

• Epworth UM Church-Bread of Life: 501 Morgan Ave., Palmyra; 856-829-1908; food distribution from on the third Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but next month's distribution will take place Saturday, Nov. 22.
• Living Faith Ministries: 2323 Route 73, Pennsauken; 856-661-8110; third Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
• New Hope Ministries: 6023 Route 130, Delran; 856-505-0203; fourth Tuesday from 4-6 p.m., fourth Saturday from 1-3 p.m.
• Bethel-Hosanna AME Church - Food Is Important Hope Mobile: 3465 Haddonfield Rd., Pennsauken; 609-969-7858; first Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Cherry Hill SDA Church: 700 Cooper Landing Rd., Cherry Hill; 856-667-7110; second Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• Samost Jewish Family & Children's Service of SNJ: 6 East Miami Ave., Cherry Hill; 856-424-1333; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (by appointment only).

SNAP aids more than 800,000 people in New Jersey. Almost half are children, nearly 1 in 3 have a disability, and 1 in 5 are 60 or older, according to the New Jersey Department of Human Services.

SNAP benefits loaded to Families First EBT cards before Oct. 31 will be available to use after Nov. 1. State officials encourage SNAP food assistance recipients to check their account at NJFamiliesFirst.com or by calling 800-997-3333 before going to a grocery store after Nov. 1.
