Supermoon, Town Council Meeting Highlight Week Ahead

Also, get the scoop (pun intended) on one of Moorestown's newest Main Street businesses.

Expect cooler weather this week after last week's excruciating heat wave. Temperatures are expected to hover in the mid-80s all week, with a chance of rain and thunderstorms every day.The wet weather should bring some measure of relief from the heat. Unfortunately, the stormy forecast could also obscure the supermoon—when the moon approaches Earth at the closest point during a new or full moon—Monday night.

The celestial phenomenon officially arrives Monday at 2:16 p.m., though the supermoon will be best viewed at night.
If Mother Nature decides to spoil the stargazing fun, you could always drop by the township council meeting Monday night. According to the online agenda (attached as a PDF above), council will recognize Rev. Damian McElroy, pastor at Our Lady of Good Counsel, for his 25 years of service with the Catholic Church.

Council is also expected to approve the transfer of one of the Moorestown Mall's liquor licenses to incoming restaurant Firebirds Wood Fired Grill (slated for a late fall opening). Council meets at 7:30 p.m. in the IT room at the high school.

Perkins Center for the Arts will hold a free, hands-on learning workshop about tile making and decorating, hosted by professional tile and mosaic artist Jessica Liddell, from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday. One added perk: The tiles created during the workshop will be installed on two benches, which will be permanently located at the rain garden at Perkins. Registration is required, so read here for more information.

This is also the final weekend to catch Moorestown Theater Company's (MTC) Bye Bye Birdie, featuring a (local) star-studded cast, headlined by Channel 6ABC anchor—and frequent MTC performer—Rick Williams. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door. However, advance ticketing is always recommended

After the show, head downtown and grab a cone (or a cup) at Moorestown's newest ice cream shop, Brain Freeze, which recently opened at 99 W. Main St., between Morrone and Kaye Orthodontics and Carl’s Shoes. The "'old-time' style ice cream parlor" features 24 flavors of hard ice cream and yogurt and eight flavors of water ice, as well as chocolate and vanilla soft serve (not to mention a plethora of specialty sundaes), according to the owners.

Stop in or call 856-866-8888 for more information.
