Who's Thinking About Main Street Restaurants?

In this letter to the editor, Greg Adams worries about what liquor licenses at Moorestown Mall could do to Main Street eateries.

To the Editor:

There have been gallons of ink spilled over the issue of liquor licenses in Moorestown, but I haven't read a word about what liquor licenses at the mall would do to the existing restaurants on Main Street. Suppose four or five large restaurants open up at the mall, all serving liquor. What do you think is going to happen to the many fine smaller restaurants on Main?

There are only so many people to feed in this town. On any given night, if 500 of us eat at new restaurants in the mall, that's 500 fewer who will be dining on Main Street.

What's more, if both referenda pass, the establishments on Main Street will be at an unfair disadvantage since they won't be allowed liquor licenses, while newer restaurants at the mall will.

Just a few years ago, the Economic Development Advisory Committee worked to attract a number of new restaurants to town. Now we're poised to give them the shaft. Why? Who will want to come and do business here after that?
