Greater-Morris Staple Closes Its Doors After Nearly 60 Years

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — A beloved store in Morris Plains will be closing its doors after serving the community for nearly six decades.

The Korner Store, located at 14 Burnham Road, is officially closing after 59 years of serving the community.

The convenience store was established by the Maietta family (who have run it to this day) in 1966. The establishment served as a hub for the community, selling everything from coffee and breakfast sandwiches to scratch-offs and candy.

“For nearly six decades we have watched generations of families walk through these doors: children who grew up to bring their own children, and friends, and neighbors who became family,” a Korner Store statement read. “We cannot express enough how much your loyalty, kindness, and support have meant to us all these years.”

The building will now be occupied by the Jersey Artisan Cafe. The Maitta family said while the decision to close was hard, customers will be “in good hands” with the new tenant.

Several residents commented on the statement, reminiscing about riding their bikes to buy candy from the store, and buying their first-ever lottery tickets when they turned 18.

“So sad, another great family business closing,” one customer wrote. “The best of luck... Love and happiness to you both as you close one chapter and start your new one.”

“From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for letting us serve you for 59 wonderful years,” the statement read. “Though our doors may be closing, the memories created here will live on with us forever. It’s not goodbye, but see you around town.”
