Holiday Miniatures on Display at the Morris County Library
Exhibit to Run Though the Month of November
During the month of November and ending after the first week of December Ellie Falco, a Morris Plains resident, will have her miniature creations on display at the Morris County Library. Her work, celebrating the holidays and the coming winter months, will be on exhibition in the large display case just inside the front entrance to the library. Ellie has been making dollhouse miniatures for over 25 years. Recently she has started stepping back from this hobby and home business and is in the process of selling much of her diverse collection.
Ms. Falco stated that, “the display is a celebration not only of Christmas, Hannukah and Kwanza, but also the upcoming winter season. I have included a number of lighted displays that either plug in or use batteries. There are also a variety of scales, from traditional dollhouse scale (where 1 inch = 1 foot) down to very tiny 144-inch scale, a challenge to work with, but lots of fun to make.” She went on to say that “I’ve enjoyed designing miniatures for many years and recently found pages and artwork from Charles Dicken’s first edition of ‘A Christmas Carol’ online which I duplicated in miniature to be part of a display box depicting a Victorian Christmas. It includes tiny faux dried orange slices and cone shaped ornaments to decorate the tree, as well as other details typical of the era.”
The exhibition is meant to delight both children and adults and get people into the holiday spirit as we start looking forward to Thanksgiving and the holiday season. There is a display depicting a fancy Christmas Dinner with a chandelier and tree that light up; a modern living room full of Hannukah decorations and games with back lighting; a holiday table set for Kwanza; an entry room depicting the day after New Years with the remnants of the last night’s party; domes with decorated Christmas trees that light up; acrylic boxes with various holiday scenes; several winter scenes with sheltered deer or rabbits and much more. Additionally, there is a dome display with scenes from the popular Frozen cartoon movie that so many children love.
