Opening Night for MHS Theatre’s Little Women Is One Week Away
Get your tickets now for the student-run production of the beloved classic, which runs November 21–23

Morristown, NJ—The award-winning Morristown High School Theatre Program’s fall production of Little Women opens one week from today with just four performances from Friday, November 21, to Sunday, November 23. Tickets are still available, though the best seats are going fast, so act now to reserve your seats for this original adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved coming-of-age classic on the MHS stage.
The students have been hard at work building sets (modeled on the historic homes in which Alcott lived and visited), making period-accurate costumes, assembling props, designing hair and makeup, perfecting the sound and lighting, and, of course, learning their lines and blocking in anticipation of presenting Little Women to audiences next weekend.
Theatergoers who attend any of the four performances can also enjoy MHS Theatre’s award-nominated lobby presentation, which includes themed experiences, concessions, basket raffles, and an opportunity to participate in the Theatre Program’s community outreach efforts by writing letters to soldiers at Jo’s writing desk or giving or taking a book off our little library shelf.

Younger theatergoers can also attend the March Family Children’s Party from noon to 1 pm on November 22, prior to the Saturday matinee (the Children’s Party and play performance are separate admissions). Kids at the party will enjoy snacks, beverages, a craft, and a chance to meet members of the cast.
Among the treats available at the Children’s Party will be The March Family Favorite, a custom, limited-batch, Little Women-themed ice cream flavor that will be on sale at Beenie’s Ice Cream on Morris Street starting Thursday, November 20. Twenty percent of the sales of The March Family Favorite—a buttery cornbread ice cream with a blueberry jam swirl—will go to the MHS Theatre Program.

Little Women is a coming-of-age story about love, family, and the sisterly bonds of the four “little women” of the March household at a time when their father is away fighting the American Civil War. A treat for the holiday season, Little Women spans several Christmases in the lives of the March girls and their mother, who instills a spirit of independence, charity, forgiveness, and compassion in her daughters.
Morristown High School’s production of Little Women is an original adaptation by MHS’s award-nominated director, George LaVigne, with input from the students. It reaches back past the many movie, television, and musical adaptations of this timeless American classic to Louisa May Alcott’s landmark 1868 novel, getting to the heart of what has had readers and audiences returning to Little Women for more than a century and a half.
In the words of the March girls’ mother, Marmee, “There’s truth in it,” as well as “humor and pathos.” MHS’s production is sure to be a heartwarming reminder of “how much genuine happiness can be had in a plain little house.”
MHS Theatre will present four live performances of Little Women on the Morristown High School stage, including two evening shows and two matinees:
- Friday, November 21 at 7:00 pm
- Saturday, November 22 at 2:00 pm
- Saturday, November 22 at 7:00 pm
- Sunday, November 23 at 2:00 pm
