See What’s Replacing Morris Plains' Korner Store After 60 Years
The new establishment prides itself on locally sourced ingredients and products.
MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — A staple establishment in the Greater Morris area is closing down, and with the closure comes the grand opening of a new business.
Last week, the Korner Store, which has been operating for 59 years at 14 Burnham Road in Morris Plains, announced it will be shutting down. Owned by the Maietta family since 1966, the establishment served as a hub for the community, selling everything from coffee and breakfast sandwiches to scratch-offs and candy.

“For nearly six decades, we have watched generations of families walk through these doors: children who grew up to bring their own children, and friends, and neighbors who became family,” a Korner Store statement read. “We cannot express enough how much your loyalty, kindness, and support have meant to us all these years.”
Replacing the store is the Jersey Artisan Cafe, a sister-company to Jersey Artisan Co., a local market with a location in East Hanover. The Morris County-based market prides itself on local and fresh produce.

“At Jersey Artisan Co., we embrace New Jersey's rich agricultural heritage by celebrating the seasonal bounty of the Garden State,” a statement read. “Inspired by the traditions of Southern Italian living, we are committed to using locally sourced ingredients that support the region's ecosystem and farming community.”
The company is no stranger to the Korner Store, having hosted many pop-up appearances at the decades-old establishment.
The company was founded by Salvatore Pisani, who, while having grown up in Morris County, is very much in touch with his Italian roots. He strives to uphold his Southern Italian heritage while staying true to New Jersey agricultural traditions.
Jersey Artisan Co. has partnered with Spring Run Dairy Farm to provide locally-sourced cheeses and other dairy products. They also work with River Valley Community Grains, who help source their bread.
While the products are sold out of a retail shop in East Hanover (and soon Morris Plains), the products are made at a facility in Whippany.
The store will offer authentic Southern Italian delights, including fresh mozzarella, Italian pastries, freshly-baked bread, and more.
Jersey Artisan Co. also offers classes and demonstrations, showing guests how to make cannoli, pasta, and mozzarella.
“Our products are crafted in small batches, ensuring quality and freshness,” the site reads. “From fresh and aged cheeses to naturally leavened bread and pastries, as well as fresh and dried pasta, our offerings are inspired by the seasons and the local landscape.”
It’s unclear when the Jersey Artisan Cafe will officially open in Morris Plains, but keep an eye out for announcements.
