Bridge Closed In Morris County Due To Serious Deterioration
The Palmer Road Bridge over Mill Brook will be closed for the next eight months as part of a replacement construction project.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — The Palmer Road Bridge over Mill Brook in Denville and Randolph townships is now closed for replacement construction, which began yesterday and will last for the next eight months.
The bridge, which was built in 1917 and sees an average of 5,400 vehicles per day, is in poor condition due to the deterioration of structural steel beams, prompting officials to launch the replacement project.
Construction on the bridge has begun, and the road is now closed to all traffic. While construction is underway, motorists are being detoured onto Franklin Road, Route 10 and South Salem Street.

The proposed bridge replacement will consist of a precast concrete, three-sided rigid frame on cast-in-place concrete foundations. A painted four-bar steel railing will be placed across the structure between the stone-faced pylons, according to Brian Caruso, Morris County Supervising Engineer.
The guide rail along the approach roadway will be stained brown to help the structure blend in with the surroundings.

The project's general contractor is CMS Construction of Plainfield, and the estimated $1.1 million cost will be shared by the state and county.
