Suspected Thief Nabbed After Weeks Of Investigation: Morris Co. Sheriff

Officials used Crimestoppers, a digital anonymous tip program, during the investigation.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — An investigation of a theft that occurred in June has led police to a suspect, according to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 5, a bicycle was stolen outside of Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace on Route 10 in Morris Plains. The incident occurred in the store’s rear parking lot in broad daylight. The bicycle belonged to an Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace employee.

Surveillance footage shows a person unlocking the bicycle, a TREK, and putting it in the back of their green Honda Pilot between the years 2003 and 2008. The suspect then drove off.

Police issued a BOLO, or “Be On The Lookout,” for the suspect, vehicle, and bicycle to nearby police departments.

Recently, an “astute” Fairfield police officer spotted the suspect vehicle. After an investigation, it was revealed to be the same vehicle in the footage, and the Honda Pilot’s driver was arrested.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office credits the “Crimestoppers” program for assisting in the suspect’s arrest.

The Crimestoppers program allows residents to learn about local crimes committed, and anonymously provide law enforcement with tips and information.
