Water, Ice Available To JCP&L Customers Without Power In Morris County

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Some Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L) customers in Morris County were still without power on Thursday evening after heavy storms downed utility poles and power lines.

Water and ice are available at some local Acme, ShopRite, and Kings stores for residents to help keep food cold, to cool off, or to supplement a private water supply that has been affected by the outages.

An overnight series of storms Wednesday into Thursday dropped nearly 1.5 inches of rain and blew 60 mph winds (alongside hail and heavy rain) in some parts of the state.

Morris County towns had lower rain totals (0.75 inches or less), and wind speeds topped out at 40 miles per hour, according to data from the National Weather Service and Weather Underground.

First responders and utility suppliers still had plenty of work to do around the county, with downed trees and power lines among the concerns. Several major roads were still closed during the Thursday morning rush hour, and more than 14,000 JCP&L customers were without power at one point.

As of 9 p.m. Thursday evening, there were still about 5,100 Morris County customers out of power, including close to 1,000 in both Parsippany, Hanover Township, and Rockaway Township according to First Energy’s online map.
