$975K In State Aid For Morris Schools To Expand Pre-K

Gov. Murphy announced the district will received a grant to help expand its preschool program.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Morris School district will receive $927,000 to bolster its preschool program, Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Tuesday. It's one of 31 eligible school districts set to receive over $20 million in state ate.

“By investing in early childhood education, we are making a long-term investment in the next generation,” Murphy said. “Every child deserves the opportunity to have access to quality pre-K programs and this funding will provide our children with the tools and support they need to reach their greatest potential."

The awarding of Preschool Education Expansion Aid (PEEA) was based on the number of low-income students in the district. Funding is expected to be used to expand hours, decrease class sizes, and add more spots for children.

The district offers preschool at the Lafayette Learning Center. The school offers inclusion classrooms for "typically and specially developing," and classrooms for students with individual education plans. Although typical needs students might be placed on a waiting list, there are always spots for students who have been classified by a Child Study Team.

It's not clear exactly how the Morris School District will use the aid. It is the only Morris County school district to receive aid in this round of funding. Another round of funding will be distributed in the near future.
