Are We Doing Enough for the Homeless Population?

Gov. Chris Christie says, "we need to do better."

Homelessness is something those without a home don't like to talk about. Those who feel we as a society have failed these people, which has lead to their circumstances, don't like to talk about it. But, it is a failure, and we need to do better.

Those words from Gov. Chris Christie during a video posted to YouTube on April 18, addressing the homeless population in New Jersey. Christie signed Executive Order 92 creating the Interagency Council on Homelessness to combat homelessness. The Council is tasked with better identifying and addressing the needs of homeless New Jerseyans as part of a longterm plan to help assist those individuals affected by homelessness and to prevent homelessness from taking hold in the future. The order was signed on Wednesday at the HomeFront shelter in Lawrence Township.

Here in Morristown, there has historically been a larger homeless population than in our more suburban neighbors. And, while programs and services such as  and exist, people are still homeless here and around Morris County, and around the state.

Are we doing enough to serve this portion of the population? Is it a matter of only being able to do so much, of doing too much, or are we getting the job done? Take our poll and voice your opinion in the comments.
