Community Rallies For Critically Injured Firefighter, EMT, Stands In Solidarity
In addition to saluting the firefighter during his transfer to Morristown Medical Center, officials launched a GoFundMe for his family.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Greater-Morris community has rallied for a firefighter, who is currently being treated for severe injuries at the Morristown Medical Center.
Jim Danus is an active volunteer member of the Whippany Fire Department, an active volunteer member of the Florham Park First Aid Squad, and a former member of the Morris Township Fire Department.
Danus was “critically injured” during a May training drill, according to Whippany Fire Department representatives.

As Danus’s “long road to recovery” begins, residents and emergency personnel are standing in solidarity with the community leader.
“The brotherhood of the fire service is more than just a saying; it's the foundation of who we are,” a Whippany FD post read. “We are a family, and when one of us is hurting, we all are. We are incredibly grateful for the support shown today and the unwavering solidarity that reminds us we are never alone.”

Thursday morning, Danus was transported to the Morristown Medical Center to begin his rehabilitation process, and on his way, dozens of firefighters and EMTs saluted him along Madison Avenue.
Joining the procession were emergency response personnel from East Hanover, Hanover Township, Morristown, Morris Plains, Madison, Florham Park, and Mount Tabor.
The Hanover Township Firefighters' Foundation FMBA Local 109 has organized a GoFundMe for the downed firefighter’s family to assist with unforeseen expenses following the tragedy.
“Jim's wife Tracey, and children, Jacob, Jessica, and Josh, are now left struggling with the burden of managing the household in Jim's absence,” the GoFundMe reads. “Any support you can provide will help alleviate some of the financial strain and unforeseen expenses the family is facing during this difficult time.”
The fundraiser has already raised more than $20,000 for the Danus family.
