Concerning Forecasts Call For Flood Watch In Morris County
Weather experts said rainfall rates could exceed two inches per hour.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Flash Flood Watch is in effect in Morris County on Thursday, according to the Morristown Department of Public Safety.
The flood watch will remain in effect from 2 p.m. into the night, officials said. If conditions worsen, a Flood Warning may be put in effect.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” an announcement read. “Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris.”

Forecasts predict heavy rain and storms beginning Thursday afternoon, continuing past midnight. In addition to the rain, temperatures are expected to drop to the low 70s and high 60s with wind gusts of up to 30 mph.
Weather officials added that rainfall rates could exceed two inches per hour.

Authorities warn residents against driving through flooded areas, as more than half of all flood-related deaths occur in vehicles, according to the National Weather Service.
“Turn around, don’t drown,” as the saying goes.
“You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued,” emergency officials said. “Have multiple reliable ways to receive Flash Flood Warnings.”
