Dover Officer Sues Drunk Driver Who Hit Him: Reports

The officer has been out of work since the February incident, when he was struck by a Jeep driven by a drunk driver: reports.

DOVER, N.J.– A Dover police officer who was injured in a February hit-and-run is suing the driver, who was impaired at the time, according to a report.

Officer Timothy Thiel suffered a broken leg, as well as face and head injuries on Feb. 6 and has been out of work since, the Daily Record reported.

On Feb. 6, Thiel, a 12-year veteran, went to check on an idling Jeep with sleeping occupants, the Daily Record reported.

When Thiel got out of his patrol vehicle, the Jeep – driven by Michael J. Medici of Rockaway – jumped the curb and ran over the officer, the Daily Record reported.

NJ.com reported that Theil suffered a broken femur, a broken shoulder and a concussion.

Medici, who was 29 at the time, was charged with DUI and assault by auto and pleading guilty to the charges in June, according to the Daily Record.

He was sentenced to three years of high-intensity probation on Aug. 26, the Daily Record reported.
