MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A former NFL star was arrested last month in Morris County after police allege that he drove drunk with a loaded gun tucked beneath his car seat.

In the early morning of Dec. 22, former Jets lineman Muhammad Wilkerson was stopped by police in Hanover after cops suspected he was under the influence, according to court records obtained by TMZ Sports.

After failing his sobriety test and getting arrested, police searched his vehicle, discovering an open bottle of tequila and an FN 509 Tactical Handgun with 11 hollow point rounds inside, according to TMZ Sports.

According to Sergeant John Schauder, Wilkerson has been charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow point bullets, possession of a high-capacity magazine and driving while intoxicated.

The former Pro Bowl pass rusher told Hanover police he was coming from a club in New York City at the time he was pulled over, according to the court documents.

Wilkerson, a 34-year-old Linden native, allegedly claimed he obtained the FN 509 tactical handgun legally in Florida but had no documentation for it, according to TMZ.

Hanover Township Police Captain David White did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.

Wilkerson was drafted in the first round (No. 30 overall) by the Jets in 2011 and spent most of his eight seasons with the team. He signed a one-year contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2018 after being released by the Jets.

Wilkerson made three appearances for the Packers before sustaining a season-ending ankle injury.
