Finding Fitness in Morristown

One hundred and 14 pounds. For some, that is their entire body weight. And, that is what Jennifer Jacobs lost as a contestant on NBC's "The Biggest Loser.".

Inspired? Here are a few ways to get started on your own road to wellness.

  1. You Need to Know About Your Walkable Town: Let's face it, we're a car culture. Thankfully, we live in a pretty walkable town. Whether going for a stroll down South Street, or utilizing Patriots Path, there are options a plenty.
  2. You Need to Know About a Little Assistance: So, yes, we are a walkable town. But, sometimes, we need a little extra push to help us work off those extra pounds. Another benefit to Morristown are the heaps of places that offer such assistance, from gyms, to yoga studios and more (like places where you can and , for instance). Check out our directory to find one that may be right for you.
  3. You Need to Know About Other Fitness Folks: You don't always need to sign up for a membership somewhere to get fit. Some businesses, like , offer free weekly events for anyone interested. Speaking of which, they're having one of their weekly runs tonight at 6:15 p.m.
  4. You Need to Know About Sweat Equity: Would you like to be productive while trimming that waist? Look no further than right here in Morristown. . Contact Kathleen Margiotta, 973-644-4363, for more information.
  5. You Need to Know About Losing Weight in Other Ways: Sure, Jennifer Jacobs lost 114 pounds, and that's great. But, the weight on our bodies isn't the only girth many of us can do without. If you have some old clothes you're not using anymore, or perhaps a piece of furniture in the garage that might be better utilized elsewhere, consider donating them to one of several charities in town that would be more than happy to help you lose that weight. These include the Market Street Mission Thrift Store, Bargain Box Thrift Shop and Nearly New Consignment Shop.

Finally, we would be remiss if we did not acknowledge one reduction that comes with a bit of sadness. Today marks the final day with Patch for Kathy Shaskan, editor of sister site Morris Township-Morris Plains Patch. As interconnected as Morristown is with the Township and Plains, we cannot but feel a sense of loss. We've been a great team, and we here at Morristown Patch wish Kathy nothing but the best along the road ahead.
