Flooding, Delays, Power Outages After Stormy Night In NJ: See Impacts

About 3,000 customers are without power Monday morning across the state, and some North Jersey communities got more than 4 inches of rain.

NEW JERSEY — Fierce storms and heavy rain battered parts of North Jersey overnight Sunday, prompting a flash flood warning and leading to power outages, transit delays, and traffic crashes.

Forecasters say to expect more rain and thunderstorms on Monday, most likely in the evening; temperatures will remain in the low-to-mid 80s.

The National Weather Service issued a warning about "life-threatening" flash flooding Sunday night in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union counties, and there was also an overnight flood warning in Morris and Somerset counties that expired Monday at 8 a.m.

Local officials and businesses reported high waters in communities including Morristown, Haledon, Woodland Park, and Belleville (where first responders were conducting several water rescues).

New Jersey Transit reported weather-related signal issues that delayed several train lines Monday, as well — including the Morris & Essex Line and the Montclair-Boonton Line. As of 9:45 a.m., there were more than 2,900 JCP&L customers without power across the state — including more than 1,100 in Hunterdon County, close to 470 in Sussex County, about 130 in Morris County, and 155 in Warren County.

  • Cedar Grove: 3.45 inches
