Flu Season 2019 Is Here: Morristown Medical Center Shares Tips
Want to avoid getting the flu? The Chief of Infectious Diseases at Morristown Medical Center has these tips.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Queasy stomachs, runny noses, achy muscles: it's that time of the year again. Yup, flu season is back in Morris County. Thankfully, there are steps you can take to prevent getting sick.
Dr. Jason Kessler, the Chief of Infectious at Morristown Medical Center, shared these easy flu prevention tips:
- Get yourself and family vaccinated with the flu vaccine. This doesn't always prevent the flu, but can shorten the duration or severity.
- The flu vaccine is also safe for children. Work with your child's doctor to determine an appropriate schedule.
- Don't go work when you have flu symptoms (fever, muscle aches, vomiting, GI symptoms), and encourage others not to come to work if they are sick.
- Practice frequent hand washing. Wash your hands with an antibacterial soap for 30 seconds under warm water multiple times each day.
- If you have a weakened immune system, consider wearing a mask to protect yourself from exposure.
The CDC recommends everyone over six months of age receive the flu vaccine. Not sure if you can get vaccinated? Check with your doctor. You can get the vaccine at your local doctor's office, and many pharmacies, urgent care clinics, schools or worksites also offer it.
