Gov. Chris Christie Drive Now Open In Morris County
Gov. Chris Christie took a ceremonial first ride down the road in a vintage car.
PARSIPPANY, NJ — Gov. Chris Christie Drive is now open to drivers in Morris County. The drive cuts through Central Park of Morris County, from Parsippany to Morris Plains.
Christie took the first, ceremonial drive down the road in a vintage 1992 Franklin car on Wednesday. He was chauffeured by Randolph resident Art Lee, and accompanied by Freeholders Doug Cabana and Christine Myers.
Before becoming governor, Christie served as a Morris County Freeholder. He is also a longtime Mendham Township resident. Christie is the only modern governor to be elected from Morris County (the other three governors that hail from the county served in the 1800s).

“We value our history in Morris County. Across Morris County, parks, streets, and schools are named for people who have played a major role in our history,’’ said Cabana. “Gov. Chris Christie, as a two-term elected Governor; a United States Attorney for New Jersey, appointed by President George Bush; a presidential candidate; and – of course – a Morris County Freeholder; has earned his place in the state and county’s history books. Now, this important new access road fittingly will carry his name.’’
The road, which is a third of a mile, connects Central Avenue within the park with West Hanover Ave in Morris Plains. It will hopefully alleviate the traffic that currently cuts through residential roads in neighboring towns.
