The movie arrives nearly 30 years after the original premiered in theaters in 1996. The original film further solidified Sandler as a comedic powerhouse, following classics like “Billy Madison” and “Airheads.”

Once again, Gilmore turns to professional golf in need of cash, this time not to purchase his grandma’s house, but to fund his daughter’s ballet classes. Donning his iconic Boston Bruins hockey jersey and Timberland boots, Gilmore comes out of retirement and shows off his one-of-a-kind tee-off skills.

The PG-13 film is directed by Kyle Newacheck, known for his work on TV comedies “Workaholics” and “What We Do in the Shadows.” It received a 64 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 73 percent audience score.

Shooting Locations

The film was primarily shot in New Jersey, with several set pieces here in Morris County. Most of the filming was done in the fall of 2024.

One shooting location was Long Valley’s Farmview Golf Center, also known as Big Charley’s Mini Golf. Perhaps Gilmore’s short game needed some work before he returned to the pros.

“Thank you to Adam, all of the cast and crew, and all of the local departments that helped in the filming back in September,” said Washington Township Committeeman Matt Murello. “I can't wait to see the movie this weekend.”

Other Morris County filming locations included Morristown, Farleigh Dickson University’s Florham Campus, and Florham Park’s Lifetime Fitness, according to IMDb.

The film was also shot at several NJ golf courses in Warren, Somerset, and Monmouth counties.
