With Heat Wave Incoming, Here's Where Cooling Centers Will Open Around Morris County

A number of community centers, fire companies, libraries, and town halls will provide a place for people to beat the heat this week.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — As residents across most of New Jersey brace for an impending heat wave this week, officials across Morris County are letting residents know how (and where) to stay cool.

High temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s on Tuesday, and climb into the upper 90s by Friday with mostly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.

The heat could also linger into the weekend, and temperatures overnight will only drop into the mid-70s during the hottest days.

AccuWeather forecasters say that the peak of the heat wave could hit on Thursday - which is the start of astronomical summer.

A heat advisory is in effect for Morris and much of the state from 10 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday. Then, an excessive heat watch will run through Saturday, though forecasters expect that to also become a heat advisory.

Experts recommend staying inside during the hottest times of day. If you must be outdoors, drink plenty of fluids and take lots of breaks in the shade.

The Morris County Office of Emergency Management advised people to "stay safe from the heat by drinking a lot of water, staying indoors, and call 911 if you see someone suffering from a heat emergency."

Morristown Town Hall (200 South Street) will be open as a cooling center, with hours Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
