The heavy rain and winds are expected to continue overnight into Monday. Come Monday afternoon, winds are expected to diminish, and rainfall will become lighter and less frequent.

The forecast shows that skies will begin to clear up early Tuesday.

Officials expect Morris County to see about 1.5 inches of rainfall this weekend, and the state to see roughly two inches. Some coastal areas can expect up to three inches of rain, officials warn.

“Localized flooding in low-lying, urban, and poor drainage areas—especially during heavier rainfall on Sunday afternoon,” Morris County emergency officials said.

“We are in communication with our Jersey Central Power & Light partners and will be working with them throughout the weekend to monitor the power grid and prioritize any significant outage issues,” an office of emergency management spokesman said. “In addition, we’ll be coordinating our deployment and support efforts with the Morris County Communications Center, Morris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Morris County Fire Mutual Aid Coordinator’s MACs for any mutual aid requests. Please monitor local forecasts throughout the weekend, avoid flooded roadways, and secure loose outdoor items before winds increase on Sunday.”
