MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A fresh layer of snow blanketed parts of northern New Jersey, including Morris County, Friday morning, as a late-week storm dropped several inches overnight.

Here is a roundup of snowfall totals reported Friday morning around Morris County, according to reports by the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, known as CoCoRaHS.

  • Jefferson Township.: 3.0 inches
  • Lake Hopatcong: 3.0 inches
  • Mount Arlington: 2.0 inches
  • Randolph: 1.5 inches
  • Chatham: 1.03 inches
  • Madison: 1.03 inches
  • Brookside: 1.0 inch
  • Morris Township: 0.85 inches
  • Mendham: 0.95 inches
  • Harding Township: 0.55 inches

The National Weather Service has extended the Winter Weather Advisory for the Morris County area. Originally set to expire at 10 a.m., the alert is now in effect until 4 p.m. today.

Rain and snow will persist throughout the day, with winds gusting up to 30 mph. Daytime snow accumulation is expected to be less than an inch. The National Weather Service forecasts rain and snow to continue overnight, with temperatures dropping to 34 degrees.

"Above 1,200 feet elevation, the strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages," the National Weather Service said in the advisory.
