Installation of Redeemer Rector set for Sept. 29

The Right Rev. Mark M. Beckwith, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, will lead a Celebration of New Ministry service formally installing the Rev. Cynthia L. Black, D.D., as the 16th Rector of the , at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29. The public is invited to attend.

The Rev. Black was selected from a pool of more than 125 applicants. She was chosen for her strong preaching, her exceptional liturgical skills, and her commitment to social justice and community outreach.

The Rev. Black returns to the Diocese of Newark after two decades of ministry as Dean of the Cathedral in Kalamazoo, Mich., and in
Plymouth, Minn.

Church leader Joanna Dewey said, of the Rev. Black, "Cynthia does
all aspects of ‘church’ well, with an inclusive style that engages and energizes. We are excited about the new possibilities for Redeemer and our ministries to the community and the larger world."

Local clergy from a range of denominations will be present, as well as representatives from Morristown agencies that the congregation supports through service and outreach. Mayor Timothy Dougherty plans to attend. The sermon will be delivered by a prominent team of speakers, including the Right Rev. Catherine S. Roskam, Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of New York, and Louie Crew, founder of Integrity USA, the leading grassroots voice for the full inclusion of all persons in the Episcopal Church.
