Man Charged With Kidnapping, Sexual Assault At Morris Co. School

The alleged incident occurred at the Fairleigh Dickinson University campus in Florham Park, police said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A Jersey City man has been charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault in connection with an incident at the Fairleigh Dickinson University campus in Florham Park.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll announced Wednesday that Jayshawn E. Moore, 21, who is not affiliated with the university, was arrested on sexual assault and related charges.

Moore has been charged with the following crimes: two counts of first-degree kidnapping; four counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault; second-degree aggravated assault; second-degree burglary; third-degree terroristic threats; third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes; and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Moore, according to police, forced a woman that he knew into a dorm room on campus on Sunday, April 9. Once inside the room, he allegedly threatened the victim verbally and with a knife and assaulted her physically and sexually for several hours.

Moore was arrested in Elizabeth on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, on the aforementioned charges.

After his arrest, Moore was taken to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

A motion for pretrial detention was filed, and his detention hearing has been scheduled for Monday, April 17, 2023.
