Midnight Movies at 7: Dark Side of the Rainbow

Watch the movies you were never allowed to see as a kid! As part of an occasional series entitled “Midnight Moves at 7” (showing cult and B-movies traditionally shown at Midnight Movie houses), the library will be screening what has been dubbed The Dark Side of the Rainbow.

Whoever thought of synching of the classic film The Wizard of Oz (1939) and the classic Pink Floyd album Dark Side of the Moon (1973) into one entertainment experience was either a genius or––according to members of Pink Floyd at least – someone who had way too much time on his hands. The fact that so many coincidences occur in the mash-up - from the chimes of the song “Time” going off at the appearance of Mrs. Gulch on her bike to the song “Brain Damage” playing while the Scarecrow is singing “If I Only Had A Brain” - led many people to believe that the members of Pink Floyd created the album with the synchronization in mind. The screenings took on a cult atmosphere. College students created repeated showings in dorm rooms while one company has even tried to make a profit out of synching movies to various classic rock albums. Regardless, the mash-up of the two pieces of media is an interesting experience and something which probably everyone should witness at least once.

Light refreshments will be served.
