Earthquake Rattled Morris County Thursday
If you felt the ground shake on Thursday afternoon, you weren't the only one — and officials confirmed there was a minor earthquake in NJ.
LONG VALLEY, NJ — An earthquake shook parts of Morris County and other areas of New Jersey on Thursday afternoon, officials confirmed.
The United States Geological Survey said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.2 took place at exactly 3 p.m. on Thursday. The epicenter was about three miles north of Whitehouse Station (Readington), in Hunterdon County.
The USGS allows residents to report if they felt an earthquake, and several people in Long Valley reported feeling a weak shaking. Most of the reports were from communities around Hunterdon County, and no residents said they felt anything more than light shaking.
