Montville Girls End Morristown's LAX Winning Streak

The Colonials fell to the Mustangs 23-16.

After coming off of a high from defeating Randoph on Monday, Morristown girls lacrosse had a bit of a let down with a loss Tuesday on the road against Montville, ending their perfect season.

The Mustangs defeated the Colonials 23-16.

“Because of our win today, we got a piece of the conference title,” said Montville coach Jen Mulvaney. “They were the only undefeated team in the conference. We had one loss and Roxbury had one loss so us beating them today gave us a three-way tie for the conference title.”

“We didn’t show up. We played yesterday or today, back to back, but we don’t make excuses,” said Coach Evan Mager, who just finished his third season. “We definitely have the talent, the ability. We’re young; we have only five seniors, and the entire offense is one senior, five sophomores and one freshman. And we have a pretty big eighth grade class coming in.”

Now both teams are preparing for the state tournament, which begins Thursday.

“If we win, we move on. If we lose, we’re done,” said Mulvaney. “Today, they did phenomenal. It was a total team effort,” said Mulvaney. “I can’t say enough. I’m so proud of them. They worked hard this season. They really executed today and played as a team every inch of the team.”

After the game, Mulvaney recognized Senior Ashley Bello for her commitment to the sport over the years. This game was on their senior day.

“She’s a four-year member of our program,” said Mulvaney. “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching her in both field hockey and lacrosse. She’s a rarity. They do not make team players like Ashley Bello.”
