This Morris Co. Sandwich Shop Is Among Best In Nation, Ranking Says

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A local sandwich shop was recently honored for having one of the best sandwiches in the nation, according to Yelp.

August is National Sandwich Month, and to celebrate hoagies and heroes, along with po' boys and paninis, Yelp has released its first-ever "Top 100 Sandwiches of 2025" list. Two New Jersey sandwich establishments made the cut.

Morristown’s Saigon Subs & Café, located at 98 Elm Street, was ranked #31 in Yelp’s “Top 100 Sandwiches of 2025.” The establishment has five stars on Yelp, based on more than 550 reviews.

“Love Saigon Subs! Been here on a couple of occasions and it has yet to disappoint,” one reviewer wrote. “Small inside area with a friendly staff so more of a grab n go type or place. The sandwiches though, are extremely delicious. Packed with flavor, great bread, and appropriately priced. Definitely a go-to place for those in Morristown!”

The cafe is known for its Vietnamese dishes, with an incredibly popular menu item being the bánh mì, a French-inspired Vietnamese sandwich.

Translated to mean “bread,” bánh mì was created in the late 1800s using baguettes brought over from French colonizers. It has evolved through the years and has become an incredibly popular sandwich across the globe.

“Though it bears some resemblance to the American hoagie, the bánh mì sandwich is wholly unique in both its ingredients and history,” Saigon Subs and Cafe’s website reads. “This harmonious marriage of French and Vietnamese cuisine is a global phenomenon for good reason. The bánh mì sandwich is delectable, appropriate for any occasion, and sure to leave you craving for more.”

Bánh mì sandwiches are typically served with mayo, cucumbers, deli meat/pate, cilantro, jalapenos, pickled carrots & radish. Saigon Subs offers a variety of bánh mì sandwiches, including ones with beef, tofu, chicken, and even a Vietnamese pork roll, for those looking for a touch of Jersey.

Other menu items include Banh Pudding Xoai (a mango pudding topped with strawberry pops), and a Vietnamese pork meatball rice plate, as well as beverage options including bubble tea and Vietnamese drip coffee.

Saigon Subs and Cafe is open Monday to Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The establishment is closed on Sundays.

Second Street Bakery, Jersey City

Ranking at #28 on Yelp’s Top 100 Sandwich list is Jersey City’s Second Street Bakery.

Located at 402 2nd Street, the casual deli/bakery offers eats including chicken parm subs, hot roast beef sandwiches, homemade calzones, cinnamon bread, and plenty more.

The family-owned joint also has a five-star rating on Yelp, based on more than 250 reviews.

“Hands down the best sandwich shop in JC. The bread is d**n good and anything they make with it makes it complete,” one reviewer wrote. “The prices are all reasonable with good portion sizes to guarantee you'll be full. From the sandwiches to the platter to the pastries, you can't go wrong here. They all hit home. Feel free to close your eyes, point at anything on the menu and be impressed… Highly recommended!”

Often lauded in the bakery’s reviews is its sausage bread, featuring savory sausage baked directly inside the loaf.

Second Street Bakery is open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The top three shops in the country, according to Yelp, were Franky’s Deli Warehouse in Hialeah, Florida, Sierra Subs and Salads in Three Rivers, California, and Tony’s Beechhurst Deli in Whitestone, New York.
