He has also picked up several certifications in his 20-year career with the Sheriff’s Office, becoming a Search and Rescue Coordinator, Project Lifesaver Trainer, Monadnock Expandable Baton Instructor, Firearms Instructor, FBI-trained Basic Sniper, and FBI-certified Tactical Bomb Technician, to name a few.

Additionally, Tomasini is a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, and is an active Major in the New Jersey Army National Guard. He’s been with the National Guard for 23 years, and currently serves as the Infantry Branch Chief for the Observer Coach/ Trainer Group, “OPS Group Devil,” according to the sheriff’s office.
In addition to an extensive military education, Tomasini has a wide background of academic education as well. The newly appointed chief holds multiple degrees including an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the County College of Morris, two Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Psychology and Sociology from Thomas Edison State University, a Master’s Degree in Management from Thomas Edison State University, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Human Resources from William Patterson University, and an Educational Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Stockton University, according to the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
“One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that words mean little without action,” Tomasini said during the ceremony. “When I think about the kind of Chief I’d want, it’s someone who has my back. Someone who supports me, who empowers me, who sees and hears me, and who invests in my development because I matter. With that in mind, I pledge my full support to you; my time, my energy, and my focus, to meet your expectations and help you thrive.
“To my fellow Chiefs, law enforcement partners, and community stakeholders, if there’s one universal truth about leadership, it’s that it cannot exist without relationships,” he continued. “The partnerships we form and sustain are the foundation of our collective success. I’m reminded of the African proverb: ‘If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ I pledge to build strong bonds and meaningful collaborations. I look forward to seeing how far we can go together.”
