Morris County Heat Warning: Dangerously High Temps Incoming

Cooling centers are available to residents without access to air conditioning.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Temperatures are expected to reach dangerous highs this week, according to the Morristown Department of Public Safety.

An extreme heat warning has been issued from now until Wednesday night, according to authorities.

Officials said that heat indexes are expected to reach 110 degrees over the next two days.

“The hottest temperatures and heat index will occur Monday and Tuesday,” a statement read. “Low temperatures near 75 to 80 degrees and high humidity will not offer much relief from the heat at night.”

  • Monday: Mostly clear skies with a high of nearly 100 degrees.
  • Monday Night: Partly cloudy with a low of 72 degrees.
  • Tuesday: Hot and sunny, with a high of nearly 100 degrees.
  • Tuesday Night: Clear with a low of 72 degrees.
  • Wednesday: Highs upwards of 90 degrees with a chance of light showers
  • Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy with lows of 71 degrees.

In order to beat the heat, officials recommend that residents “drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.”

Additionally, officials reminded residents to avoid keeping children and pets in hot cars, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.

Those without air conditioning options are encouraged to go to one of Morris County’s dozens of cooling centers across 39 municipalities. Dial 211 for assistance in locating the closest cooling center to you.
