Morris County Killer And His Getaway Driver Sentenced To Prison

The sentencing comes four years after a man was shot to death in a parking lot.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — A man guilty of a homicide in Morristown and his accomplice have been sentenced to prison, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Tyrell Lansing, 32, formerly of Morristown, and De’Quan McDaniel, 31, have been sentenced for their role in the death of a Cedar Knolls man four years ago.

On Aug. 18, 2021, around 1 a.m., Morristown police responded to reports of a shooting on Clyde Potts Drive.

Authorities found a man, Raijah Scott, 35, had been shot to death in a nearby parking lot.

An investigation revealed that Lansing was responsible for Scott’s slaying. McDaniel provided Lansing with transportation after the shooting, and a third conspirator, Myles Dacres, lied to police about the shooting.

Lansing and McDaniel were found the following day in Oklahoma and were arrested. The pair was extradited back to New Jersey and charged.

Lansing was initially charged with first-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose this past October.

On Tuesday, Lansing was sentenced to 25 years in prison and is subject to the No Early Release Act.

McDaniel pleaded guilty to hindering the apprehension or prosecution of Lansing and was sentenced to three years in prison along with 250 hours of community service.

Dacres also pleaded guilty to hindering the apprehension or prosecution of Lansing and was sentenced to three years in prison back in 2022.
