Morristown HS Wins First Sectional Softball Title In Team History
The Colonials play their state semifinal game on Tuesday at home, having defeated several higher-ranked teams in tournament play.
MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Morristown High School softball team is one win away from the state championship, having upset third-seeded Columbia High School in sectional play this weekend.
The No. 12 Colonials defeated the Cougars 3-0 on Saturday, in the final round of the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 tournament. Pitcher Callie Volker threw 12 strikeouts, according to a box score for the game.
This is the first sectional championship in Morristown Softball's history, according to a team social media post.

Morristown entered the tournament as underdogs, and knocked off higher-ranked Fair Lawn, Montclair, and Bergen Tech before their win over Maplewood-based Columbia at Ivy League Park in Essex County.
After posting a 4-8 record through April, the team members "reignited their fire"and battled back to win 10 of their last 12 games — only dropping two, against Fair Lawn and Whippany Park.

“We seem to have to prove everyone wrong, but we know who we are," head coach Carly Minerowicz told NJ.com. "We never have to prove ourselves wrong. We just keep proving ourselves right.”
That sentiment was echoed by her players, who in an Instagram post highlighted the "perseverance, drive, and pure grit" that fueled their surge forward.
Morristown faces No. 2-ranked Watchung Hills next in the Group 4 semifinals at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4 at their home field. The finals are on Friday, June 7 at Ivy Hill Park.
