Morristown Man Stole 5 Guns From Home, Had Heroin, Machete: Cops

Month-long investigation ends with a dozen charges, police report.

MT. OLIVE, N.J. – A Morristown man has been arrested after a month-long, countywide investigation after he allegedly burglarized a home and stole jewelry and firearms, police said.

On Dec. 2, 2015, Mt. Olive police officers responded to a residence on Flanders Drakestown Road for the report of a suspicious motor vehicle in the driveway, police said. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived, and it was learned the residence had been burglarized, police said.

An investigation revealed numerous watches and firearms were stolen from the house.

The suspect vehicle was located in Morris Township on Dec. 14, police said, and Mt. Olive detectives were able to impound the vehicle and execute a search warrant, where police found three watches, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, and a machete, police said.

An investigation lead police to Casey Powers, 31, of Morristown who was arrested and charged on Jan. 4 with burglary, theft, five counts of theft of a firearm, hindering, possession of stolen property, possession of controlled dangerous substance, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Three of the five firearms have been recovered.

Powers was placed in Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $95,000 bail.
