Morristown Mayor, Councilman Face $100K In Campaign Violation Fines: Report

Charges stem from 2009 election win, report says.

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty and councilman Michael Elms violated election reporting laws during the 2009 primary and general elections, according to a complaint from the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.

As reported by morristowngreen.com, Elms, who served as Dougherty’s campaign treasurer, and the mayor failed to disclose information about the campaign’s donors as late as four years after the election.

The complaint comes with 15 individual complaints, each carrying $6,800 in fines, the report said.

This isn’t the first time a Morristown mayor has been charged by ELEC with wrongdoing. Former mayor Donald Cresitello was fined $11,375 in 2010 for alleged late filings, the report said.
