Morristown Medical Center Ranked Among Top 50 U.S. Hospitals
For the fifth consecutive year, Atlantic Health System's Morristown Medical Center has been named one of the World's Best Hospitals.
MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Morristown Medical Center has been named one of the best hospitals in the United States for the fifth year in a row, according to a new ranking by Newsweek.
Newsweek collaborated with data firm Statista to publish the fifth edition of this list, which ranked 2,300 hospitals in 80 countries.
The hospitals on the list are not only innovative and provide first-rate care, but they also "consistently attract the best people and provide the best outcomes for patients as well as the most important new therapies and research," according to Newsweek.

On this prestigious list, these two Atlantic Health System medical centers join The Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and Massachusetts General, among others.
In addition, both Morristown and Overlook are ranked among the Best Hospitals for Infection Prevention in 2023.
“Clinical excellence and extraordinary outcomes are hallmarks of the care that our physicians, nurses and other caregivers provide every day,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president, Morristown Medical Center. “Whether using leading technology, innovative procedures or the warmth of a kind word, I am so appreciative of our entire team who goes the extra mile to deliver personalized care for every patient. This outstanding achievement is a testament to their dedication and expertise.”
Newsweek and market and consumer data analytics firm Statista collaborated to create a rigorous methodology to ensure the ranking's quality and validity.
For the evaluation, four data sources were used:
- Hospital Recommendations from Medical Experts: an international online survey that included more than 80,000 doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals
- Patient Experience: surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals
- Hospital Quality Metrics: data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety, and staffing
- PROMs Implementation: an online survey on implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals
Nancy Cooper, global editor-in-chief for Newsweek, said the goal of the study was to provide a data-based comparison of hospital reputations and performances across counties.
"We hope this will be useful to patients and families seeking the best care for themselves and loved ones, as well as to hospitals as they benchmark themselves against their peers," Cooper said.
Each hospital is rated by a score; read more about the methodology here.
