The ranking further highlighted the town's importance during the Revolutionary War and listed the Morristown Green, Freylinghuysen Arboretum, and Morristown National Historical Park as good places to connect with the past.
Fortune mentioned that the town has been growing steadily over the past 12+ years, and that it is far enough away from New York City "to act as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle, yet close enough for a weekend trip or commute to work on a hybrid schedule. "
Morristown officials and the Morris Museum were among those celebrating the ranking on social media, with the Museum saying that "there is more to health than physical activity, which includes cultural enrichment."
Mayor Tim Dougherty said the town should at the top of the list, but "we’ll settle for 9."
The publication analyzed more than 2,000 cities and nearly 200 data categories for this study — including livability, financial health, resources for aging adults, education and wellness.
Fortune also used information from the Sharecare Community Well-Being Index and Financial Well-Being Index: Morristown’s community well-being was ranked at 75 out of 100 and its financial well-being at 66 out of 100.
