New Coffee Shop Taking Over Morristown's SmartWorld Location

SmartWorld Coffee closed its doors after more than a decade on South Street in Morristown earlier this summer.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A well-known coffee shop with a long-standing presence in the heart of Morristown is undergoing a rebrand.

The former SmartWorld Coffee location, a staple for local coffee lovers at 74 South Street, will soon reopen as Roast Coffee House, following a change in ownership.

SmartWorld, which had been a fixture in Morristown for more than 18 years, permanently closed earlier this year. A note taped to the door expressed gratitude to the community, thanking residents for their support over the years. "It is with bittersweet news that SmartWorld Coffee has come to the end of its era, and we want to say goodbye to the Morristown Community," the letter read.

In addition to a wide selection of brewed coffee, espresso drinks, and cold-brewed/nitro-infused iced coffees, SmartWorld Coffee baked fresh goods daily, offering a variety of croissants, muffins, scones, gluten-free items, and fruit smoothies.

While the exact reason for the closure was not disclosed, the SmartWorld Coffee team hinted that the 74 South Street storefront might once again be serving coffee in the near future—a prospect confirmed by the new owners, real estate professionals Jesse Mundt and Sally Campuzano.

According to Mundt, the plan for the South Street space is to modernize the shop, enhance its social media presence, update the menu, and ultimately provide a better experience for local residents.

As part of the overhaul, the interior and exterior of the shop will be completely redesigned. On social media, Mundt shared that the goal is to create a more open-concept space, offering additional areas for customers to relax and hang out.

Mundt noted that while SmartWorld was designed more as a "grab-and-go" store, their vision for Roast Coffee House is to create a community space where people can sit and enjoy their coffee. He also mentioned plans to better utilize the shop's back patio, which had been underused in the past.

"We’re bringing a new upscale and modern vision to the community... We can’t wait for you all to see our vision come to life," Mundt said.

Although an official opening date has not been announced, the pair anticipates launching in early 2025. To stay up to date on construction announcements, click here.
