Pets Impacted By Alabama Tornadoes Flown To Morristown Airport
St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center will help more than 50 adoptable dogs and cats find loving homes.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Following deadly tornadoes that hit Alabama, more than 50 animals traveled from the Cotton State to Morristown Airport. The adoptable cats and dogs arrived Tuesday from Birmingham, and the St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison will help them find homes.
The Greater Birmingham Humane Society made the pets available before the storms. Officials reported at least five deaths and multiple injuries in Calhoun County, Alabama, from last week's tornadoes.
The shelter needed to free up room for stray animals or pets in need of emergency care or boarding. The nonprofit Wings of Rescue flew them to New Jersey.

Some of the evacuated animals will be ready for adoption in the coming days. Others will go to partner shelters, shelters including Delaware Humane Association and SAVE, A Friend to Homeless Animals.
“We know how difficult it can be when a disaster places an additional burden on local shelter services,” said Colleen Harrington, director of St. Hubert’s WayStation Program. “By taking in this group of adoptable pets, we know Birmingham Humane is better able to rescue, house and care for pets displaced by the recent tornadoes, and to reunite them with their local families."
