The news of the impending closure is not entirely unexpected, as last winter, the Morristown Zoning Board reviewed an initial concept plan for a proposed mixed-use building on Maple Avenue.
The applicant, Cohome Inc., which manages special needs housing at the Max on Morris apartments, initially proposed a five-story building at 1 and 1.5 Maple Avenue. However, the plan was scaled back before receiving approval this past summer.
The revised development will now consist of three floors and include four residential units, which will all be sold at market-rate.
As part of the plan, the lot—currently home to two residential units above ground-floor retail space, along with a separate commercial building housing Thee Nail Salon—will be demolished to make way for the new structure.
Cohome Inc. was founded to provide adults with disabilities with access to their communities. The organization says that it promotes independence by providing person-centered affordable housing and supportive services.
