Public Safety Director Hired In Morristown
The public safety director will oversee police, fire, and emergency management.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A Naval veteran and former police officer has been hired as the first Public Safety Director in Morristown, town officials said.
As the new director, Michael C. Corcoran, Jr. will coordinate and oversee the police, fire, and emergency operations, and will " set policy and perform detailed research and analysis to quickly assess, diagnose, articulate, and address public safety needs in collaboration with a diverse group of personnel within other agencies," officials said. He will report directly to the Town Business Administrator.
“We are very excited to welcome Mr. Corcoran to our team,” said Mayor Timothy Dougherty. “He is absolutely the ideal candidate for this position with a wealth of experience and knowledge in public safety administration. I look forward to seeing the positive impact he makes on the community here in Morristown.”

Before coming to Morristown, Corcoran served as the Police Commissioner and Commissioner of Public Safety in Rye, New York. Before that, he worked as a police officer in West Orange, retiring from that department in 2016.
He will make $140,000 in the new role.
