I-80 Closure Expected Overnight Ahead Of Full Reopening
An additional eastbound lane will also be closed next week, officials said.

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Residents should expect a full closure of westbound lanes Friday night, according to the NJ Department of Transportation.
The closure is necessary for the NJDOT to complete “final paving and restriping,” to allow a full reopening of westbound lanes on Saturday morning.

Eastbound lanes are still being worked on, but two lanes will remain open this weekend. However, in order to expedite repairs, one of the two lanes will be closed overnight next week, Monday through Friday, according to officials. The closure is necessary for "construction barrier, complete paving, and other work."
The NJDOT is still expecting a full reopening of eastbound lanes on June 25.
The NJDOT noted that speed limits are 45 mph through the westbound work zones and 40 mph through the eastbound work zones.
The I-80 traffic issues are a result of several sinkholes that formed after an abandoned mineshaft collapsed in December 2024. Since then, motorists have been dealing with delays and detours while the NJDOT has been working 24 hours a day to repair the roadwork.
The NJDOT has created a timeline for motorists and residents to track the repair schedule.
