MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — NJ Transit’s Morris and Essex lines, which had service suspended west of Morristown due to overhead wire problems on Dec. 4, have partially resumed service, according to NJ Transit officials.

According to an update from NJ Transit, Morris and Essex Line rail service has resumed at Mount Tabor and Morris Plains stations and will continue to operate on a modified schedule until further notice due to continuing overhead wire repairs near Mount Tabor.

  • Midtown Direct service (to/from New York) on the Morristown Line will operate as normal.
  • Select trains will not operate.
  • Select trains will be rerouted to operate via the Montclair-Boonton Line between Denville and Newark Broad Street Station (NBS).
  • Select trains will make additional station stops.
  • Hoboken trains stopping at stations between East Orange and Summit will originate at or terminate at Summit.
  • Cross-honoring will remain in effect for NJ TRANSIT bus service and Newark Light Rail.

According to NJ Advance Media, the damage occurred in the Powdermill area of Parsippany when a contractor's work train broke the steel support columns that hold up overhead electric wires, or catenary, that power trains.
